Coloring surfaces and contours with wax coloring blocks

Wax coloring blocks are an indispensable tool for anyone who wants to make their FlipCharts more attractive. The wax blocks in the Neuland range are easy to use and offer many possibilities thanks to their short edge, long edge and surface.

Drawing with the short edge of the wax drawing pad

The short edge is used in most situations. Place the wax crayon with the short edge and you will get a 1 to 2 cm wide line - ideal for objects such as a coffee cup.

Painting with the long edge of the wax crayon block

The long edge allows more color to be applied to the paper - ideal for backgrounds and larger areas of color.

Painterly effect

With a little practice, you can achieve this position: place the wax crayon block with one edge and apply a little pressure in one corner. This will give you an effective color gradient.

Tips for effective coloring with the wax coloring pad

YES
Leave the writing blank; only colour in boxes at the edges.
NO
The writing will fade if it is covered by the full-surface paint.

YES
Apply more paint within an object along the black lines.
NO
Do not make any strokes with the tip of the wax colouring block.

YES
Make sure there is a gradient towards the center.
NO
Do not make any hard edges.

Coloring motifs with the wax crayon block

Avoid even coloring - work with color gradients instead. This is quicker and looks even better.
Blue > Blue-violet
The running figure appears three-dimensional. The white supports this effect.
Yellow green > Green
The two colors become weaker towards the text fields.
Lemon yellow > Orange
The text fields are colored more strongly near the black lines - the color disappears towards the text so that the font can take effect.

Making color gradients with the wax crayon

Example: Sun yellow > golden yellow > orange
Apply the lightest color to the entire area.
Color in 2/3 of the area with golden yellow.
Color in 1/3 of the area with orange.

How to color motifs with the wax coloring pad

  • Start with the brightest color: "sun yellow". Leave a large part of the bulb uncolored. The high proportion of white contributes significantly to the radiance.
  • The "golden yellow" enhances the effect of the first yellow shade. In the paint box you will find an "enhancer color" for each color - usually a wax crayon with a similar color.
  • Apply "orange" to the lower part of the glass along the black lines. This will make the light bulb glow.
  • Color the background with the wide edge of the blue wax crayon. This will quickly add color to the paper. Leave plenty of space around the light bulb. The white also works here.
  • Set individual accents with "blue-violet": the greater the distance to the light bulb, the darker it becomes.
