Description of the exercise
How is the exercise carried out?

The participants have to build a tower as high as possible with the 9 available components (wooden blocks). The components are located in a demarcated zone that is forbidden to enter. Which parts do the players choose as a base? How do they proceed?

As a variation, you can give the different components different values, e.g: The 4-cornered ones are worth Fr. 1000, the 8-cornered ones Fr. 2000 and the round ones Fr. 3000. This would bring the issue of risk and security into play. We at Akzente also like to use the blocks to have the actors stick something on them (e.g. stick-on labels with personal values). An additional angle that can be taken up in the reflection.

The actors have a lifting device (crane) at their disposal, which they can control using the ropes attached to it. Using the swaying crane to stack the components on top of each other in such a way that the tower, which is getting higher and higher, remains stable and, depending on the variant, earns a lot of money, for example, is a tricky business that can only succeed with good coordination, communication and motivation from everyone.

Would you like to have the tool twice and have a seminar group that needs a special challenge? Then let them build both towers on top of each other! This can really work and is a real kick! That's what I call surpassing goals or achieving high goals (in the truest sense of the word)! Or you can let the group choose certain blocks - oh, there are so many fine possibilities with the variety of blocks in our tower building!

Please make sure that the blocks can land as softly as possible if the tower should fall over, so that all blocks remain safe and sound for the next round.

Tip: If the ground is uneven, simply use a small board as a base for building the tower.
